Spring Camp: Final Day

We started off today with about twenty minutes of sectional time so that we could bond before the season. It seemed like every section was having a blast. After sectional time we gathered in the band room for a quick pow-wow and then split up (winds, percussion, and guard) to work on pre-season exercises. The winds went with Nick Benson, our program coordinator, to learn more stretches and posture exercises, which came with a lot of French words. Before being dismissed we broke up into sections one last time and received a wrap-up speech from our head drum major, Jack.

Spring camp has been very successful, and we have already improved tremendously as a band. I am looking forward to summer sectionals followed by band camp at Fort Flagler in August. Hopefully you all enjoy the summer and are pumped up for the season. Don't forget to be practicing your instruments so we can arrive at band camp ready for success!

3 DAYS!!!

Hey all!

We're 3 days away from Spring Band Camp so hopefully everyone is excited! We'll be learning music and marching as well as a couple of other things!

Everyone should be at school, in the band room, at 4 pm on Tuesday ready to rock!
You'll need your instrument and comfy shoes (and clothes). And, if we're lucky, maybe some sunscreen!

See you soon!

DCI

Hopefully, rookies are reading this!

Show band is something that has come from an organization called DCI, Drum Corps International. They are professional brass-only marching bands from all around the country that compete for the summer. A lot of our kids at Kamiak actually march in the Oregon Crusaders, or OC, over the summer before our season kicks off!

Watching a couple of DCI shows can give you an idea of what to kind of expect. Or you could even watch a couple of our shows, the link to our YouTube page is:
http://www.youtube.com/user/kamiakshowband?feature=results_main
Check it out!

But...there's a great opportunity for you to see some DCI shows over the summer...lucky you!

The first is on June 18th, the day before Spring Band Camp starts. Perfect timing right?!
That day the DCI Movie is going to be playing at theaters all over, and hopefully one nearby will be playing it, so you can check it out! A bunch of the bands will be revealing their shows. It will be at 6:30. Visit the DCI web page below to get some more info:

Another chance is on June 30th when DCI comes to Seattle! Well, Renton. DCI bands will be performing starting at 7 pm. Here's the website to check out:

AND THEN, this is the most exciting one yet, on AUGUST 8th, just before the start of band camp (!) DCI World Championship Pre-lims will be in theaters!!! It's as close as you can get to being a part of the action without actually being there. You should definitely check it out. The website is the same as the other movie above.

Anyway...hope you can check out at least one of these events. Just know that all the other band members will be trying their hardest to make it there too!

Excited for band camp,
Emma
